Most of Kota Kinabalu City backpackers hostels are concentrated in and around Gaya Steert and the Australia Place. Step-In Lodge has stepped out of these two main areas to set up house at Sinsuran Complex, which is even nearer to the sea front. Centre Point Shopping, Warisan Square and the Waterfront are all just five minutes walk from the Step-In Lodge, and the Philippines Market place, which is a good place to hunt for local souvenirs is right at the back. There are also many restaurants, cafes, bakeries and grocery stores in the Sinsuran Complex.

The reception counter is also on this floor, immediately next to the entrance. The kitchenette is also eqiupped with mircowave, coffee and tea making facilities, and refrigerator for the convenience of guests. The lodge has good 24 hours security system on every level.

Many backpackers have left their messages and comments on the many notice boards on the 2nd floor. The friendly staffs at the reception counter can provide tour information about Sabah numerous attractions, and if that is not enough, a tourist information centre is just about 30 steps away.
