Islands

Taman Tunku Abdul Rahman Park

There are many islands to explore and relax around Kota Kinabalu. The easiest of them all to visit is Taman Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, which is located just off Kota Kinabalu. Taman Tunku Abdul Rahman Park consists of Pulau Manukan, Pulau Sapi, Pulau Mamutik, and Pulau Sulug, and part of Pulau Gaya. Pulau is island in Malay language. Ferry ride to the islands can be located in three places, Jesselton Point, Sutera Harbour Hotel, and Tanjung Aru Beach Hotel. The ride to the islands takes about 10 to 20 minutes depending on the departure point. These islands are perfect for day trips as there are so near to the city, snorkeling, beach, suntan, jet ski, sucba diving, Banana boats, lot of activites are on offered here.

Pulau Tiga

Pulau Tiga comes to fame for the rest of the world, because it is the island that feature in the reality show, called The Survival series. Pulau Tiga is an volcanic island, and there is mud pool where one can bath in volcanic mud. One can also explore the snake island next door.

Pulau Sipadan

Sipadan Island, the dive heaven of South East Asia, an oceanic island with a 2000ft depth. Baracuda, hammer shark, rift shark, turtle, just name it, they are almost all here. There are about 18 dive points in Sipadan Island, will need a week to cover all of them.

My experience as a diver… diving is like a work day, everything must be so on time, 9am first dive, 11 am second dive, and 2 am 3rd dive… one can opt for 4th dive in the evening dive… Here a quote I saw at Sipadan Island “A bad day at diving is better than a good day at work.”

Pulau Labuan

Though Labuan Island has ceased to be under the administration of the Sabah government, it is still a good destination for us Sabahan and thre rest of the world to visit. It is a heaven for smoker and drinker alike, since tobacco and liquor are still taxed free here. There are also 2 war memorials, one for the Japanese and one for the Australian. While in Labuan Island don’t miss out on the Bird Park.

Wreck dive are popular here, some sunken war ships and merchant ship, all four wrecks are lying at the 30m-35m of water. and the other lying little deeper at 50m.
