Sabah is located on the northern part of the Borneo Island, the third largest island in the world. It has a land mass of 73,619 square kilometres, which is just slightly bigger than the Washington state of USA. Two thirds of Sabah shoreline are surrounded by seas and with its long shoreline, it also comes with many tropical islands, as many as one hundred, which range from the habitable big ones to exotic tiny ones.

Last century a prize winning book called “Land Below the Wind” which was written by celebrated American writer Agnes Keith, has created a lot of interest from the Western world to explore this wonderful mysterious land. Today with avid promotion done by the state government in many developed countries and also via words of mouth, Sabah is fast becoming the popular choice for an ultimate tropical vacation.

Sabah are divided into five divisions and each has its special and unique feature to offer the visitors. From nature to wildlife, and from white sandy beach to beautiful corals, they all continue to attract visitors to come back to Sabah for more. The five division are Interior, Kudat, Sandakan, Tawau and West Coast.

Kipandi Butterfly Park

The enclosure at Kipandi Butterfly Park is probably the biggest in Sabah with an enclosed area of 15,000 square feet (estimated). As many as 30 to 40 species of butterflies can be seen flying freely arround the enclosure sipping nectar from one fruit tree to another. One of the rarest butterflies in Borneo is the Rajah Brooke (Trogoneptra Brookiana) which can be easily spotted at the enclosure. Others special butterflies are Golden Birdwing (Troides Amphrysus) and the Peacock swallow-tail (Papilio Karna). The best time to view these butterflies is in the morning from 9:30 to noon, when butterflies are at their most energetic display. Have those cameras ready too.

Kota Kinabalu Heritage Walk

Kota Kinabalu was formerly known as Jesselton, and it is a rather young city with only about one hundred years of history. Jesselton came into administration at the turn of the 20th Century. The Kota Kinabalu Heritage Walk is centred around three areas, namely Gaya Street, Beach Street and Jesselton Point. This is a relativitely easy walk that will take about 2 to 3 hours. The best place to start the KK Heritage Walk would be the town padang, which cuts into Signal Hill. Located at the back of the State Library which in turn was next to the City Hall Building. Important events, games, parades, and even horse racing had been staged on this field in the past, and it is still being used for important events until this very day.

Ever since the road to the Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, the local version for Tip of Borneo, was sealed a few years back. Kota Kinabalu a Seafood Paradise

Sabah, also known as The Land Below The Wind, is the northern most state of Malaysia. Situated at the northern part of the Borneo Island, two third of Sabah’s border is made up of coastal land. The west coast of Sabah is washed by the waters of South China Sea, and the north-Sulu Sea and while the east coast-the Celebes Sea. With its unique geographical location and the many islands surrounding Sabah, corals and a vast ecosystem of wetlands have enriched it surrounding with abundant of marine life. With all this natural element in place, fishermen in Sabah are constantly supplying the local markets with plenty of fresh seafood.

Kota Kinabalu is the capitol city of Sabah, and also the most well connected city in Borneo with its international airport and sea port. Live sea creatures from Kudat, Sandakan, and Tawau have to pass through Kota Kinabalu before they are exported to Hong Kong and Taipei, two major cities of this region. With the major seafood suppliers in Kota Kinabalu, restaurant owners have made use of this opportunity to set up many seafood restaurants in the past decades. Today it is not surprised that seafood is one of the most popular food in Kota Kinabalu.

City Mall

City Mall opened it’s door to the general public on late 2006, ever since then there are no looking back. Even though City Mall is quite a distance from Kota Kinabalu City, it is well received by KK Lites. Today City Mall is one of the most busy shopping Mall outside Kota Kinabalu.

Located on Jalan Lintas, and opposite to the Sabah Golf & Country Club, City Mall is well position as it is not far from many of KK surburbs. City Mall is spacious and well planned for the comfort of the shoppers. The mall can easily be divided in to 5 alley ways. The centre alley is always busy with promotion and interesting offers, and lead to the end where Giant is located. Then there are The North City Walk and South City Walk, which consist of many smaller shops. Lastly two more row of shops are line up at both outer side of the mall, many restaurants can be found here.

The Kinabalu Park Headquarters (HQ) is located at the southern boundary of The Kinabalu Park. A two hour drive from Kota Kinabalu passing scenic country side along the Tamparuli -Kundasang road, will lead one to the Kinabalu Park HQ. With an altitude of 1500 metres Kinabalu Park HQ has a cooling temperature average between 24°C to 18°C. Accommodations, restaurants, souvenir shops and exhibition centres are some of the facilities provided at the Kinabalu Park HQ. The Kinabalu Park HQ office is situated right at the entrance. Overnight visitors and climbers must register at the office, before moving on to their destinations.
