Most of Kota Kinabalu Backpacker Hotels are located in Gaya Street and the Australia Place. Hostels at Australia Place are generally more quiet at night since it is next to Signal Hill and further away from the centre of the city. While Hostels at Gaya Street are nearer to night life activities. Average bed price starts at RM 20 per person without breakfast, and room start with RM 40. Most Hostels offer good security system and provide good tours information.
Gaya Street
Gaya Street, the heart of Kota Kinabalu city, has many restaurants, banks, and shops. This is a very convenient place to get supply and others essential products. The jetty terminal to the islands is near by and the Sunday Market is right at the door step. Others places like Waterfront Esplanade, Centre Point Mall, and Warisan Square is only 10 to 15 minutes walk. Drive to the KKIA takes about 20 minutes.
